Registration of Exporters & Importers on the RBI IEDPMS Portal

India’s international trade landscape continues to evolve, with digital compliance and transparency at the forefront of regulatory priorities. A key development for exporters and importers is the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) mandate requiring registration on the IEDPMS (Export Data Processing and Monitoring System) portal. Here’s a comprehensive guide to what’s changing, why it matters, and how to navigate the process with ease.

Why the Change?

The RBI, through its Foreign Exchange Department (FED), has set out new compliance norms to bring all exporters and importers into a unified digital reporting framework. This not only streamlines export-import transactions, but also fosters better monitoring, fewer errors, and quicker reconciliation for all parties—businesses, banks, and regulators alike

What Is the IEDPMS Portal?

IEDPMS is an RBI-driven platform allowing exporters, importers, and their banks to:

  • Register and update firm and contact details in real-time.
  • Track the status of all shipping bills, export remittances, and related documentation across Authorized Dealer (AD) banks.
  • Ensure that all pending bills and export documentation are processed and closed as per official regulations.

Step-by-Step Registration Process

  1. Visit the Portal:
Go to the official RBI IEDPMS site at https://edpms.rbi.org.in.
  2. Begin Registration:
Click on “Customer Registration” (usually on the right-hand side of the login screen).
  3. Fill Out Details:
You’ll need to enter the following information:
  • IE Code (IEC)
  • Name of your firm (per DGFT records)
  • PAN and GSTIN are associated with the IEC
  • Valid mobile number and email address (linked to your firm and updated with your bank)
  • Registered business address
  • Captcha as displayed
  1. Submit:
Once the form is complete, click “Submit.” After validation, credentials will be sent via email for portal access.

Key Points to Remember

  • Your email ID and mobile number must be registered with your AD bank before starting IEDPMS registration.
  • The portal will accept only the latest registered contact details linked to your IEC.
  • If you have banking relationships with multiple banks, each must have your current email and mobile number; otherwise, the portal may reject your registration.
  • Post-registration, credentials are emailed—keep an eye on your inbox and check your spam folder just in case.

Why Compliance Matters?

Failing to register means you cannot access or close out your shipping bills and other export documents. Non-compliance can result in your name going on the caution list of the RBI and delays or penalties in your export operations. Besides being a regulatory obligation, registering on the IEDPMS portal provides you with real-time tracking, fewer manual errors, and improved speed in processing your export transactions

Pro Tips for Exporters and Importers

  • Double-check your records: Before registering, validate your IEC-linked email and mobile with all your AD banks.
  • Update banks promptly: Always update your banking partners when your contact details change.
  • Monitor communications: RBI and your bank may send compliance updates—stay vigilant

While the new digital norms may add a small compliance step, they ultimately empower Indian exporters and importers to manage shipments efficiently and with regulatory confidence.

Stay proactive, register today, and keep your export business running smoothly!
